| At
Bar 15 Ranch we use almost exclusively our own bloodlines. We use
one or two new AI sires each year to have a benchmark for our own
bulls and to introduce some new genetics. We have used Full Fleckvieh
bulls to outcross with our herd, but we want to retain about 1/2 to
3/4 Fleckvieh in the herd. As with our Angus and crossbred herd, rather
than following popular bloodlines or certain strains, we prefer to
raise the kind of cattle that work for us and our customers. Embryo transplant is an important part of our program. Once we have identified those superior females, we want to ensure that we have daughters to carry on. We only flush a limited number of cows each year and BovaTech Genetics does all of our transplant work. You can see in our cow herd the results of flushing only top cows!
