IT'S ALL ABOUT FAMILY!
Our wet, snowy spring has turned into the best "grass" year in recent memory. Cows are belly deep in grass, it is cool, and very green. The good grass is reflected in the weaning weights ono my bull calves: average adjusted weaning weight on five bull calves: 915 lb. The top bull calf weaned at 1,029 lb adjusted weaning weight.
I admire and respect the people in the cattle business for "sticking with it" and for their tenacity in surviving the last few years in the industry. It is not for the weak-hearted! But better times are around the corner, and for those who have tightened their belts, yet again; their serious culling and conscious herd improvement will pay off. Kudos to all of you in the cattle industry.
The "Round Up" sale group has accepted my cattle as part of their sale in High River, December 16th, 2010. My Purebred herd will number 10 Bred Cows (5 with bull calves and 5 with heifer calves) and 5 Purebred Heifers.There are only five cow families represented: I selected one each from our top cow families at the Bar 15 Dispersal, and these are the results. True to form, they have excelled. The oldest cow will be 7 in 2011; these cows are just beginning their profitable years. See the following pages for photos and performance.
