Bar 15 Simmentals and Stevick Angus Ranch

September 27, 2007

UPDATE ON BAR 15 SIMMENTALS/STEVICK ANGUS RANCH

            Yes, there is life after cows; although not entirely!   We still have many bovines roaming around our place here at Pincher Creek, but that is because we like to saddle up the horses and go watch “cows eat grass” every once in a while.
            Anne has retained and/or purchased 7 head of Purebred Red Polled Simmental cows and will be actively marketing the progeny.  These are her passion and pastime and are well cared for.  Quentin is taking care of a large commercial herd of cows for a very good customer from Cardston, so he is working out new watering and grazing systems all the time.  In between, both of the Stevick’s have been enjoying some traveling and visiting friends and family; AND renovationg the house and yard.
            One of the main goals after the Bar 15 Dispersal, was to enjoy ranching and cattle with lots less work.  Bar 15 Simmentals/Stevick Angus ranch is developing a very elite commercial bred heifer program; where we buy heifer calves from past bull customers with good cowherds and management; winter them, breed them by AI to top Angus bulls for ease of calving; and market them the following December at the “No Surprises” bred female sale in Fort Macleod, AB.  You will see this year’s heifers on our “For Sale” page.  These heifers spend the summer in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where we own a share in a grazing co-op.  So it is a good way to ride good horses amongst good cattle in the beautiful setting of Southern Alberta Mountains.
            We are planning on refining our custom grazing operation; and in doing so have taken the Environmental Stewardship Course.  Fencing out dugouts and watering from off site solar water systems has been a great improvement, not only to water quality but cattle gains as well.  We also offer a complete management package for anyone wanting to summer cattle here.  Contact us for management rates.
           We will also be selling 2 heifers in the upcoming Black & Red Sale on December 15th, 2007 in Red Deer. Once again please check our sales page for photos and footnotes of these bulls.

Sincerely;
Anne
